An Intellyx Brain Candy Update
We’ve covered Kasten twice before, in December 2018 and November 2019. In October 2020, cloud data management vendor Veeam acquired Kasten, adding the company’s Kubernetes backup and restore capabilities to Veeam’s product line.
Kasten, which remains a separate business unit, has rolled out the latest version of its platform. This new version offers simpler installation and management, multicluster support, and ransomware protection.
Ransomware protection in a Kubernetes environment is especially tricky, as applications running on the platform are inherently distributed and dynamic. To address these challenges, Kasten offers policy-based automation, backup integrity, immutability, and support for granular restorations.
For organizations considering paying the ransom instead, chances are low that the perpetrator will enable them to recover their files. The chances of recovery post-ransom for Kubernetes deployments is even less likely. Recovering targeted files with Kasten may be the only solution.
