Elastic: Enabling Profiling in OpenTelemetry for Comprehensive, Real-Time Observability

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

We last covered Elastic in April 2023 and November 2023.

Elastic in Intellyx Brain CandyMore recently, Elastic has been supporting the open-source Open Telemetry (OTel) project, both via individual committers to the project as well as through donations of code.

In addition to its Elastic Common Schema, Elastic is also donating its eBPF-based profiling agent to OTel.

eBPF is a technology for extending the capabilities of the Linux kernel at runtime. Via this technology, Elastic gives organizations whole-system visibility from the inner workings of Linux to third-party apps and libraries.

The continuous profiling agent supports various native code types, high-level languages, processor architectures, and system libraries, giving organizations deep and comprehensive observability telemetry beyond the traditional logs, traces, and metrics that make up standard telemetry data.
