An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
Descope offers a customer identity and access management (CIAM) platform that it is now extending to AI agents and MCP servers, enabling organizations to offload authorization, access control, and identity token management for their agents to the underlying Descope identity infrastructure.
While identity and access management (IAM) offerings generally focus on employee identities, CIAM targets B2C companies who may have many hundreds of thousands of customer identities with a range of different privileges.
Descope leverages this scalability and diversity of its CIAM offering to essentially enable single sign-on across agents, both within an organization as well as external user-facing agents. Such users can create and manage their identities via a self-service interface.
Descope integrates with third-party identity providers, enabling (for example) external users to use their Google ID to access a company’s AI agents.
Intellyx hot take: While many other vendors are offering identity management for AI agents, Descope’s CIAM capabilities are particularly well-suited to B2C organizations exposing agentic interfaces to their customers.
Intellyx cold take: Descope provides short-lived tokens to agents, which work well when human users are taking actions via agentic interfaces, but may not be adequate for agentic orchestrations that involve agent-to-agent interactions.
