The art of retargeting utilizing big data is nothing new—and yes, it can be a little bit “creepy,” as Jason Bloomberg explains in a recent article from sys-con media. The key to avoiding the creep factor, as Bloomberg says, is communication: keep an open line of dialogue with your consumers.

creepy basketIn other words, rather than collecting data constantly without any interaction or direct consumer knowledge of the process, involve and engage your customers. It could even lead to bigger and better findings, as with social media interactions. Bloomberg states, “The boy that stares at you throughout the high school dance but never says a word is creepy. But the boy that comes up to you and engages in a conversation is not. The same is true for marketing.”
