Apstra – Extending ‘Intent-Based’ Up the Stack

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

Since I covered Apstra in an article for Forbes in September 2017, the intent-based networking vendor has been extending its intent-based capabilities beyond the network.

Intent-based networking has two core elements. First, users are able to configure the behavior of the network via business-centric policies. Second, the tool continually checks the network to insure it is in compliance with the policies, adjusting the configuration automatically if a problem arises.

Today, Apstra is extending its intent-based networking capabilities to the software-defined data center (SDDC). While networking is still central to its offering, it can also manage VMware configurations as well as security and load balancing settings, thus fleshing out the notion of the intent-based SDDC.
