SignalWire: An Infrastructure and API for Restarting Communications Development

SignalWire - logo , An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Sometimes a disruptive technology was right under your nose, or in your pocket, all this time. SignalWire is creating a new software-defined communications network layer atop an open-source technology called FreeSwitch the founders helped invent in the 90s, which became one of the underpinnings of the SMS messaging, VoIP, IVR and video chat startups you know from the last 20 years.

The company’s cloud-based stack provides development tools and components, from webserver to APIs to mobile UIs, for building high-fidelity, high speed communications applications — with underpinning telephony and messaging services offered as a utility at fractional costs.

Founder and CEO Anthony Minessale mentioned partnerships with some leading media, communications and retail companies who are using their RelayAPI beta offering, to build solutions for two-way video chat, customer service and other features into their own apps, and move away from ‘LAML’ (or, ‘Legacy Antiquated Markup Language’) as he called it.
