MariaDB: New M in LAMP that is Transactional, Analytic, and Distributed

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

MariaDB is an open source database management system that extends MySQL by offering storage engines that support both transactional and analytic workloads. It is ACID-compliant and supports SQL queries, but can also handle columnar, row-based and hybrid (HTAP) data.

MariaDB (the company) offers an enterprise version of the database that supports distributed, cloud-based environments. These distributed deployments offer high availability via sophisticated data redundancy and data migration behind the scenes.

MariaDB can run natively on Kubernetes, taking advantage of Kubernetes’ built-in automated scale-out and self-healing capabilities.

Public cloud providers offer hosted versions of the open source MariaDB database, but those offerings don’t include MariaDB’s enterprise capabilities.
